Abstract :

Immunopathological reactions in memory of Gell and Coombs
Part 2: Cytophilic antibodies
In the original publication of Coombs and Gell type II allergic reactions were called cytotoxic reactions. Via activation of complement factors and release of split products (anaphylatoxins), these reactions can eventually provoke symptoms which are very similar to anaphylactic reactions.
In this part we extend the type II reactions to different kinds of pathological reactions caused by "cytophilic" antibodies, directed towards antigens which are part of a cell membrane.
