A massive liver tumor in a young female
A 46-year-old women is reported who presented with a sharply circumscribed tumor (largest axial diameter 16 cm) in the right liver lobe. The mass lesion was discovered during a routine follow up. On imaging tests the focal lesion showed the characteristics of focal nodular hyperplasia, with a focus of necrosis. Withdrawal of oral contraceptives (Stediril-d®) which the patient took for 18 years, resulted in a spectacular regression of the focal nodular hyperplastic lesion: after 5 years the maximal diameter was reduced to 5 cm.
