Geen samenvatting

Paraneoplastic syndromes in a patient with myasthenia gravis and thymoma
A 61-year-old patient presented with complaints of fatigue, reduced exercise tolerance and diffuse muscular pain. Imaging showed a lesion in the anterior mediastinum. A PET scan revealed a mild isotope uptake in a large anterior mediastinal tumour and a diffuse uptake in the skeletal muscles. After excision, the pathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of thymoma.
Neurological investigation and biochemical findings revealed that the patient was suffering from myasthenia gravis and hypothyroidism. The patient’s symptoms improved under treatment. This case illustrates a number of autoimmune syndromes often associated with thymoma.
